Tintern Abbey was founded in 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It was a Cistercian Abbey and one of two in Britain. It is located in Wales and considered one of the most spectacular ruins in Britain. In recent centuries it has inspired poets, Wordsworth and Tennyson, and painter, JMW Turner.
This souvenir spoon is quite old, probably dating to the first quarter of the 20th century. It is silverplate, made in England and has a shield on one end showing an enameled abbey over a banner. The stem looks like it is on the cusp of Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. It is 4.5 inches long and in very good condition.
